Annette Funicello danced in an amateur show in Fullerton, California, of Swan Lake when Walt Disney discovered her. The teenager was just 13 years old at the moment. To the displeasure of the Mickey Mouse Club co-stars, Funicello became a part of the cast in the show's first season, and wasn't needed to be auditioned for.
